A firewall is a filter for network traffic on either a network (i.e., hardware) or host (i.e., operating system). Depending on the traffic it allows or blocks, firewalls can reduce the risk of unwanted network intrusions or "hacking", and limit the spread of viruses or other computer security compromises.

Iowa State IT security maintains network firewall for the University and affiliated agencies.

To get started: Submit a Firewall Change Service Request.

For questions about firewall requests or the firewall itself, e-mail for assistance.

Refer to IT Handbook for additional details.
